About Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery is done using implants to shape and size breasts. If you are thinking about getting breast augmentation, sometimes referred to as “boob job”, the plastic surgeon that you choose is an important first step. Dr. Adan approaches breast augmentation as a cosmetic enhancement that should fit well with a woman’s body, lifestyle and personality. His expertise with boob jobs has helped hundreds of women feel more comfortable, confident, alluring, and feminine in their bodies for many years.

Breast Augmentation

Dr. Adan performs breast augmentation (breast enlargement, or breast implant surgery) with both saline and silicone implants. Incisions for breast implants are hidden either underneath the breast, around the areola, or in the armpit. Implants are placed either under the muscle or under the breast. Dr. Adan is passionate about listening to his patients and tailoring his techniques to their specific desires, and each of these decisions will be discussed in detail. Whether you would like a subtle increase in size, correction of asymmetric breasts, or a more dramatic change, Dr. Adan would be happy to address your concerns. Breast implant surgery is one of Dr. Adan’s signature operations.

For a woman, breasts are a sign of femininity. Women who have small breasts, or have undergone weight change, pregnancy, aging, and sagging or loss of volume often feel insecure of their breast size, shape and contour. Dr. Adan offers breast augmentation for women who want to restore breast volume, firmness and achieve a more rounded breast shape or improve natural breast size asymmetry.

Saline or Silicone?

Saline

Saline implants are comprised of a thin implant shell, which is filled with sterile salt water. Should the implant leak or become punctured, the implant exterior will collapse. The saline is then absorbed and naturally expelled from the body. Saline offers a uniform shape and overall firmness.

Silicone

Silicone implants, on the other hand, are filled with a gel substance that more accurately reflects the firmness of a natural breast. If a silicone implant leaks, it will not collapse. The gel remains inside the shell or implant pocket. The size of each implant is determined during your consultation. To attain symmetrical results, one implant can be larger or smaller than the other, depending on the existing breast tissue.

FAQ

Breast implants are silicone shells that are filled with either saline or silicone. Choosing saline or silicone implants will affect the way your breasts feel after your boob job.

Insertion techniques also vary from patient to patient. The implant can be inserted:

  • Through the areola (periareolar incision)
  • Under the breast fold (inframammary incision)
  • Through a small incision in the armpit (transaxillary incision)

The insertion technique is dependent upon the size of the implant as well as the original breast tissue.

Furthermore, the implant can be placed behind the breast tissue, but in front of the pectoral muscle (submammary placement). Conversely, implants can be placed behind the pectoral wall (submuscular placement).

Dr. Adan will discuss each of these options during your initial consultation so as to determine which technique should be used in order to achieve your ideal fullness, positioning, nipple placement, and other specifications

Your breast augmentation consultation will begin with a breast exam to evaluate what you would like to achieve with breast implants. Dr. Adan will also assess your general medical health and medical history to plan your breast augmentation procedure. Part of this medical history requires that you provide candid answers to questions about your general state of health, including, a full disclosure of health history including any illness, prior surgery of any kind and complications from prior surgery.  All types of allergies and any reaction to prior general anesthesia.  Current medications, the use of vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drugs

Before surgery, you must follow all of your plastic surgeon’s instructions. This may include:

  • Stopping smoking
  • Stop taking certain types of medications that may increase your risk of abnormal bleeding.

On the day of surgery, you may be asked to:

  • Avoid eating or drinking anything within a defined time period prior to surgery.

During your breast augmentation consultation, your breasts will be measured to determine appropriately sized breast implants that will best fit your frame and meet your individual goals.

On the day of surgery, a board certified Consultant Anaesthesiologist and a certified member of Platinum Surgery Center’s team will administer general anesthesia. The incision will be made in the chosen location, and the implant is then inserted. The incisions are then sutured shut. Results are immediate, but your body must be allowed to recover properly. After the procedure is complete, you will be taken to a recovery area for close monitoring. We carefully wrap your breasts in specialized bandages and a support bra to minimize swelling and promote the healing process. Follow up will be executed to ensure no scarring for those with keloid or hypertrophic tendencies.

To prepare the day of your breast augmentation, we suggest you wear loose, comfortable clothing with no jewelry or makeup. It is important that a friend or family member is present with you, as you will not be able to drive immediately following breast augmentation. You may also need assistance at home for the first 2-3 days following your breast enhancement. As each patient is different, so is each individual’s rate of healing. It is important to give your body the proper rest it needs and avoid lifting or bending after breast augmentation surgery. Common breast augmentation side effects include breast pain, discomfort, and soreness.

Proper hygiene is very important following breast augmentation. We suggest you do not swim or take a bath until your incision sites have properly healed. Regular showering is permitted 24 hours after your breast enhancement surgery. Resting after your breast augmentation is extremely important. All strenuous activity must be stopped until Dr. Adan feels as though your breasts have properly healed.

It is common that your breasts may be sensitive in the weeks following your breast augmentation. Breast swelling is normal and will go down as you recover from your breast enlargement surgery. We stress that you do not resume any physical activities for 1 month following your breast enhancement procedure, as this can delay your recovery and cause damage to your healing breasts. Dr. Adan uses the most advanced techniques when performing breast augmentation surgery, which results in minimal pain and discomfort and a shorter recovery time.
